Rochester Hills Man Dies after Three-Vehicle Traffic Crash

Rochester Hills, MI – Oct 14, 2022 – A 74-year-old Rochester Hills man was fatally injured Wednesday after the vehicle he was operating collided with another vehicle that was stopped for a red traffic signal.

John Bernard Swaintek was operating a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on Auburn Road near John R Road in Rochester Hills at approximately 8pm when his vehicle struck the rear of 2009 Ford Edge operated by a 49-year-old Utica man that was stopped at a red light. The collision forced the Edge into another vehicle, a 2020 GMC Sierra, driven by a 24-year-old Fennville man that had also stopped for the traffic signal.

Swaintek was rushed to a nearby hospital by emergency personnel from the Rochester Hills Fire Department where he was later pronounced dead. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Drivers of the GMC Sierra and Ford Edge were wearing seat belts and were not injured in the incident. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, which is being investigated Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.
