Hassler's Highlander Highlights: Week 10!

In Week 10 of the Fall season the Highlanders saw some sports start to wind down but not back down from the challenges.

On Tuesday, Girls Volleyball defeated Rochester and Lutheran Northwest before falling to Stoney Creek in the City Cup Tournament. Thursday, the JV team avenged that effort by winning the city cup with a 2-1 win over Stoney Creek, and 2-0 wins over Rochester and LHNW to cap their season.

Friday was a rain soaked affair for both cross country and football but that did not stop some great performances. Amanda Soldan, a Junior on the Girls Cross Country team, finished 12th overall at the MHSAA Regional 9-1 held at Anchor Bay. The class of 2023 student-athlete qualified for her 3rd state finals.

On the gridiron, the Highlanders couldn’t stop the rain but they did keep the Lightning at bay as they defeated Lapeer 42-20.

Parker Picot had 3 rushing touchdowns with runs of 9, 1 and 40. Griffin Henke had a 38 yard touchdown run while his counterpart in the backfield Marco Dicresce had a 34 yard scamper. Nick Paterra finished the scoring with a 9 yard TD run. Colin Timko hit all 6 of his extra point attempts.

Some unsung players include Alex DeGrieck who wreaked havoc in the backfield including causing a fumble that led to a score. Tait Picot who had a 70+ yard punt and was a tackle machine. Peyton Montour had an onside kick return while the offensive and defensive line continued with their strong play.

The team advances to the district finals to be held at Rochester Adams next Friday at 7 PM against the Wildcats of Oxford.

Amanda Soldan (jr) finished 12th overall at the MHSAA Regional, she qualified for her 3rd state finals.
