It was a crisp spring night to kick off Stoney Creek Women’s Soccer season. The Cougars played at home against a talented Bloomfield Hills team who had just come off an 8-0 win vs. D2 State Champs Country Day. A tight first 40 minutes had Stoney playing defense in their own half most of the time. Stoney’s best chance came from a corner kick to Senior Captain Kiera Hall, who had a rocket header towards the net but was denied by BHHS goalkeeper. On defense, Senior Captain Paris Kramer and Junior Megan Kennedy led the backline and shut down Bloomfield 0-0 at the half. Stoney had their footing in the second half and came out on the attack. Good runs made by Maddie McGinlay, junior and Lilley Bosley, junior captain. An unfortunate hand ball in the box, led to a penalty kick, and the BlackHawks Drew Martin, senior, buried it on a low slot to the left corner just out of reach of freshman goalkeeper, Merrick Schwalbach, putting BHHS up 1-0. Solid performance in net by Schwalbach. The Cougars next game is at home, Thursday night vs. the Lake Orion Dragons. JVA at 5:30, Varsity at 7 pm. JVB travels to Athens at 4 pm.

Stoney Creek vs Lake Orion

Back on the pitch and so ready to redeem themselves, the Cougars came ready to battle. And so did Lake Orion, coming off
a close 1-0 loss to Rochester High.
The Cougars opened up the scoring late in the second half when Senior Left Back Hallie Faycurry hit a
hard cross to Junior Maddie McGinlay, who launched into the air and drove the ball deep into the net off a header making it 1-0 Cougars with four
minutes left to go in the half.
Stoney Creek’s midfield came out of the break blazing at the top of the 2nd half against a regrouped Lake
Orion team. Several good chances on the net were denied or just wide with sharp goaltending from Dragon Freshman Goalie Kylie
Kapitski.
Cougars struck again and went up 2-0 with a shot to the upper back corner of the net with 35:27 left in the second half. Goal by Sophomore Kaitlyn
Krier with the assist from game-standout Senior Hallie Faycurry.
Lake Orion adjusted its formation, looking for a comeback. Dragon Junior
Whitney Acker was caught in traffic but managed to get a shot off from the top of the box just out of reach of Freshman Cougar Goaltender
Merrick Schwalbach with 33 minutes to go in the second half to bring the score to 2-1 Cougars.
The Cougars were denied more solid
chances by a strong Lake Orion defense led by Sophomore Center Back Brooke Blackstock and goaltending from Kapitski. Junior Lilley Bosley hit a
cross to Junior Ava Avripas for a shot, and Sophomore Olivia Lombardo also launched a rocket from the top of the box. Bosley had another good
look with a header. Sophomore Sarina Shah was denied by Kapinski, who also saved the deflection shot from Lombardo. Stoney’s final chance
came when Stoney’s back line slotted a ball to Bosley, who went on a 30-yard run with a shot just wide of the net.
This weekend the
Cougars travel to Grand Blanc in non-conference play. JV kicks off at noon and Varsity at 1:30 pm. SC’s next league action is Tuesday, April 12th,
at rival Troy Athens, who currently sits undefeated after three games. JVA at 5:30 pm and Varsity at 7 pm.
