Hassler's Highlander Highlights: Week 11!

Week 11 did not disappoint as the Highlanders continue to roll.

On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, the girls swim and dive team competed in the OAA RED League meet. They finished 3rd behind Seaholm and Groves.

The team had some great performances. Gemma Ugorowski finished 1st in the 100 yard breast stroke.

Lauren Woodman placed 2nd in the 100 yard back stroke.

Jessica Zheng earned a 2nd place finish in the 500 yard free.

Sadie Rogers came in 3rd in the 100 yard fly and 100 yard breast stroke.

Brooklyn Ugorowski had a 4th place finish in the 100 yard breast stroke.

Katie Lohner & Jordan Laba came in 3rd & 5th in the 500 yard free respectively.

Lydia Meidl was 5th in the dive competition.

The 200 yard medley relay of Gemma Ugorowski, Lauren Woodman, Sadie Rogers and Simone Fletcher finished second overall.

The team now prepares for the state meet on November 19th at Oakland University.


The Football team defeated Oxford 42-7 to earn their first District title since 2013.

The team was paced by Parker Picot who had 3 rushing touchdowns and threw for 1 to Joey Shallow. Nick Paterra and Griffin Henke both had rushing touchdowns. Alex DeGrieck had 5 sacks in the victory to set a school record in a playoff game.

The unsung heroes were the offensive line of Finn Tobiczyk, Andrew Rolfs, Rocco Orsini, Nick Stokan, Brady Prieskorn and DeGreick who created massive holes for the backs to run through.

Colin “Steady as they Go” Timko was again perfect with extra points going 6 for 6.

The team advances to the regional round of play and will have a rematch of their week 1 game against Bloomfield Hills. This time it will be on the Highlanders home turf.


On Saturday, Amanda Soldan was the lone representative for the cross country program as she competed in her 3rd consecutive state finals at Brooklyn MIS. The junior has been consistent all year and is a great representative for the program and school.
